MAGnituDe participating at conference on “Migration: A Benefit or a Burden”

On October 23, the MAGnituDe team in Lithuania – Kristina Šliavaitė, Vilana Pilinkaitė Sotirovič, Monika Frėjutė-Rakauskienė and Dmytro Mamaiev – gave a presentation on encounters between service providers and forcibly displaced persons from Ukraine in Lithuania and Latvia. The presentation was given at the international conference “Migration: A Benefit or a Burden?”, held during Science Week at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. It is based on research conducted in WP2, led by Oksana Shmulyar Green and Andrea Spehar from the University of Gothenburg. The research in Lithuania and Latvia revealed that emotions, burnout, stress, moral dilemmas, a lack of resources and, at times, a lack of institutional support mark the everyday work of service providers. It also showed that forcibly displaced persons from Ukraine live in prolonged uncertainty framed by the Temporary Protection Directive and face shifting societal attitudes. The policy brief “Improving Frontline Encounters with Displaced Ukrainians: Evidence and Policy Recommendations from the MAGnituDe Project in Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Finland”, written by Oksana Shmulyar Green and Andrea Spehar, was introduced to academics, practitioners and the general public at the event.
