WP 3. Spaces of conviviality

Work Package 3 explores civic spaces where migrants meet, interact, and create forms of conviviality. Three types of spaces are central to this research: civil society organisations’ (CSOs) spaces for or run by migrants, everyday social environments such as workplaces, schools, or neighbourhoods, and digital spaces including social media networks. In CSO settings, the focus lies on good practices and conflicts among service-receiving migrants. In everyday social contexts, research examines encounters between forcibly displaced persons (FDPs) and other migrants in situations where social identities and professional roles may outweigh citizenship or nationality. In digital spaces, the project investigates how ethnic, national, gendered, and generational identities shape solidarity and conflict in online forums and networks. Conducted across Germany, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Sweden, the research pays particular attention to Ukrainian FDPs’ encounters involving Syrian migrants as well as migrants from Belarus and Russia, whose home states are positioned as adversaries.
