WP 1. SensArticulate: affect-centred methodologies for fostering democratic participation

Work Package 1 develops a new methodological framework called SensArticulate approach, an innovative set of methods based on sensorial (sens-) and art-informed (art-) articulations for researching and fostering democratic participation. Collective methods are then applied in fieldwork of Work Packages 2–4. The focus is on exploration of emotions linked to sensitive subjects, embodied experiences that physically engage both researchers and research participants in interactive research process. It is designed to evoke and explore deeply engrained traumatic experiences as lived experience. Grounded in empathetic engagement throughout the research process and in collaborative, participatory co-creation of research outputs, those methods seek to unveil new knowledge on collective trauma that is both intellectually profound and emotionally resonant. Hereby, they capture the nuanced affective experiences of forcibly displaced persons living through military conflicts. The approach serves as a methodological umbrella for MAGnituDe and runs through the entire project. It is designed in collaboration with qualitative researchers experienced in trauma and migration studies (GRITIM-UPF) and community artists, using art for social change in different marginalised communities and contexts (ZAVOD APIS).
